Why Use Longlife Urea?

Longlife Urea is well suited to situations where a prolonged nitrogen response is required and when the cost of multiple nitrogen applications is high or impractical.

The benefits of using Longlife Urea are:

Increased Nitrogen Utilisation

Nitrogen is released slower and more consistently into the soil profile, leading to efficient utilisation of nitrogen as it becomes available.

Reduced Nitrogen Loss Through Volatilisation

The polymer coating segregates the urea granule from the soil and climatic environment, apply Longlife Urea in any conditions.

Reduced Nitrogen Loss Through Runoff and Leaching

The slow release nature of Longlife significantly reducing the environmental and financial cost of nitrogen runoff.

Extended Nitrogen Response

Nitrogen is released over a 90 day period removing the requirement for more frequent nitrogen applications and side dressings.

Product FAQs

When to Use

Cropping

Improve cropping yields by incorporating Longlife Urea into the base fertiliser application, reducing the need for side dressings.

Aerial Application

When applications are less frequent and expensive, incorporate Longlife Urea to take advantage of an extended nitrogen response.

Overseer Compliance

Utilise the slow release properties of Longlife Urea to help comply with government regulations regarding nitrogen loss.

How Does Longlife Urea Work?

Longlife Urea is a standard urea granule encapsulated in a biodegradable resin membrane.
The resin membrane restricts moisture flow extending the rate at which the urea granule is dissolved and nitrogen is being made available to the plant.
The biodegradable membrane is broken down into organic matter over time.

Precautions

  • Longlife Urea is not suited for when a rapid nitrogen fix is required. When a rapid nitrogen fix is required an alternative nitrogen source should be used or incorporated into the blend.

Nitrogen's Role in Plants

  • Nitrogen is always the nutrient in highest demand by plants, due to the greater content of nitrogen present on a dry weight basis in comparison to any other nutrient.
  • Nitrogen is a primary component of amino acids which are the building blocks of proteins. Thus, by adding nitrogen to soil the protein content in plants is increased.
  • Nitrogen is part of the chlorophyll molecule, and a part of numerous enzymes and coenzymes. Chlorophyll is responsible for photosynthesis, where sunlight is absorbed and stored in the plant as sugars and proteins.
  • Therefore, nitrogen is an integral part of photosynthesis.
  • Signs of nitrogen deficiency – reduced plant growth, yellowing of the leaf, early crop maturing.
